Coming Out of Catholicism

What is the difference between Protestant and Roman Catholic theology, and why does it still matter 500 years after the Reformation? In this two-part series, we move beyond common misconceptions to engage in an honest, Bible-centered look at the fundamental teachings of the Roman Catholic Church compared with the Protestant confession of faith. Our goal is to seek the truth in love, turning to the official Roman Catholic Catechism and the final authority of Scripture to understand what it means to be saved by grace alone through faith alone.

What You Will Learn

  • The Heart of the Reformation: Understand why Martin Luther sought reformation over separation and what it means to be “united in truth.”
  • Authority – Scripture Alone: Examine the Roman Catholic view of Scripture plus Tradition versus the Protestant conviction of Sola Scriptura.
  • Salvation – Faith Alone: Explore the critical divide regarding justification, merit, and whether we are “made” righteous or “declared” righteous in God’s eyes.
  • The Source Material: Engage directly with the official Roman Catholic Catechism and contrast its sacramental and merit-based system with the finished work of Jesus Christ.
